Gardens and Landscaping on the Hillside in Upstate New York
Debra Nero’s and Colin’s projects to prepare gardens in a challenging hillside of update New York – to take advantage of the view and the southern exposure, and the existing mature trees.
Since 1989 we have worked to change the area where we live to take advantage of the southern exposure (particularly in winter), to highlight the view to the south both in summer and winter – which each has a different aspect and where the deciduous trees provide summer shade but allow winter sun.
Other goals are to showcase the many mature trees, allow the pond to provide a natural habitat, and to encourage wildlife, including mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians (see also here).
