A historic fort built in the entrance to the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Florida. Seventy miles west of Key West, accessible from a ferry or seaplane, Fort Jefferson was built between 1846 and 1875, and designed to protect the entrance the Gulf of Mexico. More information here.
